pacman 3.1 problem upgrading package/s

well I am not sure if I ran into a bug or not. Here is what is happening. A while ago I had a problem with a lib32-glibc version. So I downgraded to an older version which fixed my problem. Then I asked how I could stop pacman from upgrading it everyday and the answer I received was, ignorpkg = lib32-glibc needs to be added to pacman.conf.

But, my problem is this. Now that I do not have that line in my pacman.conf I can't get pacman to upgrade to the newest version. It simply denies the fact that there is a newer version out there. How can this be? Is there some other place that is forcing pacman to ignore this package? Did I do something wrong when I changed where the databases where supposed to be?

This may or may not be a problem related to the new pacman, but if I remember right I did not have this problem till I upgraded.

BTW, I force the check every time with...

I press no here. Because I want it to work like it supposed to. I do not want to explicitly install it. This may not be the only package I have to update, I try to update daily and ever since upgrading to 3.1 I haven't had one single package upgrade. Normally I have at least one in 48 hours or so. Something just seems off...

and after all that, if I run pacman -Syy it still doesn't find it on itself.

Edit: Sorry didn't see that "pacman -Su" hidden at the bottom there.

Your problem is the conflict between cairo and cairo-cleartype. You don't want to remove cairo-cleartype so pacman can not resolve the conflict with cairo so exits. The latest (1.4.12-1) cairo-cleartype has cairo in its provides so this shouldn't happen. What version do you have installed? Edit again: so did earlier versions so....

well first off, I didn't use pacman since cairo-cleartype is in AUR, but even then, I did upgrade cairo-cleartype and it still insist there is a conflict.

This still doesn't work, I am trying to fix a missing dependency error when I run yaourt to update, apparently it runs testdb at the end of it update routines to see if things are sane and consistent. The packages that popped up where, pango and pycairo. So I did a pacman -Rd pango pycairo and uninstalled. Then I did a makepkg -c to build the cairo-cleartype package with this PKGBUILD
