Blank configuration files when installing from CD

I have archlinux already running on 2 computers, where have used the ftp installer, and I have not had any big problems installing with that.

But I have a computer only connected to the internet through wireless, which is why I would like to install from CD sources from the core installer cd, so I can configure wireless after installing.

I have tried this now on 2 different computers and on both I have problems when I come to the step for configuring the system.
The files are simply blank!

I found another having this problem in 2004 I think in this forum. He was told that this can only happen if you forget to choose DONE in some step or go back to an earlier step when going through the installer.

I have tried now 3 times and really taking care to do everything right.

I hope someone can tell me what I may be doing wrong or what the problem might be.
hmm

Re: Blank configuration files when installing from CD

It is failing to install files from the CD, and that is why they are blank.
But I have checked the md5sum and tried to burn 4 times now on different cd's.

Hmm, I have no idea what to do next other than unplug the computer and carry it to my router and plug it in via cable and do a net install.

Maybe I should have done that sooner but just thought that it should work, so.....

Re: Blank configuration files when installing from CD

I just tried using ext3 instead of jfs, and now everything works.
On my other computers I use jfs and it works fine.

But well, at least it is working now!

Re: Blank configuration files when installing from CD

The strange thing is that I had the same problem on my laptop, but then I used the ftp installer and it was no problem using jfs.
This makes me think it is a problem with the base-cd installer and not jfs itself.
I have tried installing with 2007.08.1 and 2007.10 base installaton cd, and encountered this problem.

makes u wonder, I wonder if the CD would work with another file system, like ext3? If not could be that the CD is just bad in one way or another.

that's the only guess I have if it isn't the jfs file system.

Re: Blank configuration files when installing from CD

As i wrote in the 3. Part there was no problem with the cd when using ext3. The same cd that had the problems using jfs.. I did later try other cd and other download.. Same problem.. In the end i used the cd i initially had problems with to do a ftp install and used jfs .. Then no problems..

Related to this: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8898?project=1 ?

Did you try the unofficial installers you can find in the announcement-section of this forum? I think the latest version is 2007.11-04.

Re: Blank configuration files when installing from CD

I got blank files when i tried installing on a HDD that later on just died on me. Figured it was never able to write to the disc.
