Building Custom Kernel

I'm one of those people who want to have the 1000Mhz latency so I can mess around with Rosegarden.  I have built my own custom kernel based on the current Arch kernel and got it up and running.  I built custom nVidia and iwlwifi/iwl-3945/iwl4965 packages.

My question is this:  Just exactly how "risky" an option is it for me to just rebuild the "standard" kernel using ABS and enable the 1000Mhz latency timer?  The way things are now I will have to rebuild my custom kernel every time the kernel is updated.  But I'll also have to build the custom nvidia and iwlwifi packages every time those are updated as well.  If I just rebuilt the standard Arch kernel with the lower latency, I'd just have to rebuild it after every kernel upgrade only, right?

Does that sound logical?
