I just got a Toughbook CF-27 for my birthday from a friend ( PII 300MHz, 128 ram, touchscreen, AWESOMENESS )
Anyway, I'd like to put arch on it, but there's a small small problem. There's no CD-ROM drive. Is there a way to install without a cdrom? I dont think I have the ability to book from a usb drive...

Since it has a floppy drive you could somehow boot through that or boot the cd via the floppy and be on your way.
And by cd I really mean any USB-attached storage you can get your hands on that holds the install iso and fakes it as a cdrom.

I talked to my teacher about this, and he mentioned using a notebook->ide connector and installing straight from my computer. This seems the easiest, but doesn't arch do a lot of autodetection of hardware during the install?

It does in the latest releases but this is a really cnovienient option, you do have to edit a few files manually to get everything working thou, mostlyrc.conf for modules and some kernel thingies maybe. Sounds really cool to have a 12.1" touchscreen remote!
Also, what exactly is a notebook -> ide connector? One version would be to attach your 2.5" notebook hdd via a usb-adapter to your main comp. Other than that I'm slightly confused.

I have no CD drive (and when installing no internet), and I installed arch quite fine from USB stick (using this wiki).
