upgraded some stuff.. kdm refuses to start.

Greets, was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on what would cause kdm to start x,  close, and restart it, over and over and over..

kde was getting slower and slower for some reason, to the point of when i would login, it would sit on starting system services (the little wrench) icon for huge amounts of time (till i closed it down..) so i figured, seems like a good time to refresh all the crap I got installed..

Upgraded the kernel from 2.6.3 to 2.6.7
Installed latest Alsa
upgraded from 3.7.0 to 3.9.0 Ati drivers
Upgraded kde from 3.2 to 3.2.3

I suspect there is some configuration somewhere for kde i'm missing, I can start Xfree (4.3.0.1) on it's own, and get the gray screen etc, and the logs from X show that the ati driver is loading and that everything seems fine. but kde just pukes. any ideas?

Re: upgraded some stuff.. kdm refuses to start.

nm I see what the prob is..  libXinerama.so.1

bugger, the new ati drivers don't work with xfree86 4.4.0

as per http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … a&start=15

seems the fix is to either upgrade to 4.4.0 or switch to x.org?
