is there a progress on this package?
or it was just an idea?
i like the functionality of amsn, but i hate its gui, it's so ugly...

you should check the project's page on that...
http://www.amsn-project.net/
amsn is both ugly and slow. I guess is what they can achieve with tcl/tk....

It still lacks lots of funcionalities, but you may wish to take a look at emesene. It's being developed very quickly, so take a look on it from times to times.

That is not true! It is the most complete msn-clone. And it is not slow. Take a look at Mercury... That is slow. Make sure you have anti aliased fonts in amsn too!

tk is pretty ugly.. But I use aMSN all the time.. it's not slow and as stated above it is the most complete msn clone. Slow file transers being one of the biggest issues with the other clients.

i'm using emesene now, it's very strong but i miss some plugins...
i can't enable the music plugin, and it doesn't support transfers

I felt it slow the few times I used it. Especially under Windows.
Mercury is slower, no doubt, but I don't blame them... I mean, I do blame them... Java is a choice to blame.......
I use Pidgin, and I only use the MSN to talk to friends...
I'll take a look at emesene, never tried it...

amsn really gets slow after a long uptime. also, it uses too much memory (at least it used to by the time I tried it).
emesene is great since it supports more protocol features than pidgin does (offline messages, mainly, although afaik the pidgin MSNP14 branch supports those already).
but pidgin is the fastest msn client out of the three, so that's my choice.
ah! mercury is great (webcam support!). java isn't a choice to blame, swing is
