gnome won't start

I decided i wanted to use gnome on my arch box. I did pacman -S gnome gnome-extra, that went well, i added exec gnome-session to ~/.xinitrc and did startx to only be greeted with a pop up and a black screen

Please contact your system Administrator to resolve the following problem:
Could not open or create the "(null)"; this indicates that there may be a problem with your configuration, as many programs will need to create files in your home directory. The error was "Failed to create file '/tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-67n35T': Permission denied" (errno = 13).

I had openbox running great untill now that installed gnome. Is there anything to resolve this?? thanks

Re: gnome won't start

This *may* be malicious, but you could always try to clean out the temp directory and reboot.

rm -r /tmp/*

Re: gnome won't start

chmod -R 1777 /tmp

This might be a bit more safe than my first suggestion, acctually.
