[Suggestion] Downloadable Arch Wiki snapshot

It would really be handy to be able to burn the current "snapshot" of the Wiki to CD/DVD, so it would be at hand if you're trying to get a new installation connected to the Internet (laptops and wifi come to mind) and don't have another connected computer at that physical location.

Re: [Suggestion] Downloadable Arch Wiki snapshot

that's an ok idea, except downloading a snapshot of the wiki could be unreasonably large and put an unnecessary dent in the server's bandwidth.  when i installed arch for the first time, i just printed out the few pages i thought id need.  this seems like a more viable solution.

Re: [Suggestion] Downloadable Arch Wiki snapshot

Wow, this leads me to wonder: How big is the wiki in terms of digital size?

I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

Oh, I'd guess about, say, 288 Mb. wink But, it's php, wonder if there's an easy way to get it into plain html so you could browse it with elinks from a core install with no internet access?

Re: [Suggestion] Downloadable Arch Wiki snapshot

I would actually suggest to include the beginner's guide in the default install disk, or create a beginner's disk with the guide. It would make Arch an educational distro. I love those kind of things where all you need to know is right in place. It would also encourage new users to read more documentation after install. What do you think? The beginner's guide is not THAT big, and it would be written in plain text, accessible from the CLI.

Re: [Suggestion] Downloadable Arch Wiki snapshot

I think that would be a good idea, and the Installation Guide would probably fit pretty easily, too. I found myself switching back and forth between them the last time I installed.

My original idea was to help solve a different problem, though, and that's trying to get a network connection working on a stubborn box. Once you get the Internet connection up you can use all the online support, but until then you're somewhat on your own. Maybe adding the Networking/Wireless part of the Wiki would be enough.

the last time I looked at it the installation guide was on the disk in a .txt format

Re: [Suggestion] Downloadable Arch Wiki snapshot

i know this is an old topic, but i searched for new informations and found nothing. i'd like to be able to download the whole archlinux wiki for backup reasons. you may say there is the arch-wiki-docs package, but it's only a collection of html pages, with no source code, no discussions and no revisions. for those concerned about bandwidth usage, we can use bittorrent. what do you think?

EDIT: sorry, i've just seen the sticky topic...
