I noticed that there aren't any YouTube videos for Arch Linux, so I thought I would make some. So far, I have two videos in mind I would like to make. One is about how fast I can install Arch and bring my system up with complete hardware compatibility. I'll film my laptop's display screen with a stopwatch under it so I can cut "waiting" sections out and keep it under 10 minutes.
The other video would be for pacman and yaourt, explaining how they work. I would like to show people how easy it is to get most hardware working with our packages especially. For example, sound and video. yaourt -S nvidia. Video works. yaourt -S alsa-utils. Sound works. I have a webcam, but I don't know what package to get for it. yaourt -Ss webcam ... looks like gspcav1 would do the trick, it supports about 260 webcams. yaourt -S gsbcav1. My webcam works. etc etc ...
I suppose another video I would like to make would be about compiz fusion. It seems like all the Vista boy toys enjoy the 3D-ness of their OS, so I would like to show them how yaourt -S compiz-fusion saves you like $400 ...
We should get more videos up about Arch! Everybody is going on youtube nowadays; when people want to see something, they look on that site. So if they want to see videos about Linux because they are curious, they'll go to YouTube. We might as well have a chunk of stuff up there if we claim that Arch is the most ideal distro!

I noticed that there aren't any YouTube videos for Arch Linux
Searching for Arch linux gives a search result of 27 videos.
Searching for Archlinux gives a search result of 40 videos.
Some of those videos are probably represented in both search queries. Anyway, it seems like there are some videos already but if you still want to make some videos then do so, don't let some videos I found stop you from doing it.

That's a nice idea. There are some AL vids on YouTube, but they don't seem to be specific AL demonstrations like you're proposing. So go for it!

There are some old demos Jason had me make for Linuxtag back in 2005. They were looping on a few screens for people to marvel at.

I like the pacman progress bar in the linuxtag video! In fact, it's a great video. Synthead, if you want to "modernize" it, it may provide good inspiration.

Wow, I must've typo'd earlier or something!

You must express your affection of sugary treats, your utmost desire of bon-bons, your highest want of toffee, your relentless, unending pursuit of the sweet confectionaries that provide pleasure and sustenance to children the world over on Hallowe'en, among other delicious dates on the calendar, in such a way that pacman can properly appreciate this base, primal need of yours.

Ode to the pacman progress bar: [-----Cc*************]
Oh pacman, oh pacman where could thy be?
These videos tease me with a changing case C.
I constantly wonder if its a feature of Pacman 3?
As I sit and watch him eat the dots with glee.
For you see, I am one of the few who know
the trick that makes my yellow friend go.
From the left of the progress bar to the right of my screen
I would just tell you because secrets are MEAN
I will speak of this option when I can
but this time I can't in fear of a ban.
You'll just have to search the forums my friend
because my rhyme has come to an end.
Long Live Pacman!

I don't often read source code but I now know the answer to the pacman progress bar secret (sweet ;-) And it's in these forums too - searching for the key gets 12 hits.

I went the long way around. Downloaded a git snapshot of pacman and looked for the code that processes the options in pacman.conf. The answer's in pacman.c, somewhere about line 629 IIRC (I've deleted the download now).
EDIT: It's line 622 in pacman.c in the .tar.gz source package for the current version of pacman.

I don't mind that my previous post got
lost, it actually revealed
one secret that wasn't supposed to be known.
Visions of sweets,
enters my mind.
Can this silly message trully be the
answer to unlock a hidden progress bar?
No, probably not but if you
do look closely you might actually find the secret word.
Yes, this really sucks as some kind of verse/poem

if you install it in a VM instead, you can record your screen directly...
might look better on youtube...

Good point.
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.

I got the secret, but strangly it does not work for me.. Just a blank bar.
Edit: it doesnt work for packages I already have I guess.. "pacman -S kde" set him chomping. Though I quickly had to stop the 232mb biting session.

I have returned to help a few peeps
who can't grasp Cerebral's tip of sugary treats.
If you look at azleifel comments about source
there you will find the answer of course.
As for those of you not fluent in code
you may not care for the source download.
If you look closely for a LEGAL thread,
there you will find your answer instead.
