New Pc, is this Linux compatible ?

Hi guys, i made me a new PC. I'm going to buy it tomorrow may be. But I won't do anything false. The system will be like:

INTEL Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz G0 Rev.
GIGABYTE P35 DS3L
PALIT NVIDIA 8600GT SONIC+
4 x KINGSTON 1GB DDR2 800 PC6400
2 x 250GB SEAGATE ST3250410AS 16MB Sata2 NCQ (3AAC)
ASUS 2014L1T 20X DVD-RW SATA
Tower LIAN LI PC007-FB
FSP 500W BLUESTORM II

Is this OK, or should i make some changes ? I know that Nvdia cards are fine, also that there will be no problem with the Linux kernel regarding to processsor. I really can get some tips.

All of the hardware you listed will work with Linux.

I would get 2x2gb RAM (i.e. total of 4gb), so you have RAM slots spare for future expansion.

Depends on what you end up for a video card. 500 watts in necessary for even "moderate" gaming boards.

Depends on what you end up for a video card. 500 watts in necessary for even "moderate" gaming boards.

This is slightly overstated. I've got a small form factor (first PC from my sig) and it runs fine with a 80Plus certified 400W power supply. Not a single problem. Most systems will never exceed 450W and these 1000W supplies are obscene. Always get a better supply rather than one with a higher wattage rating if you have to make the choice.

Overall, I like the system you've built. It's very similar to mine and Arch runs great on my hardware. The quad-core CPU you've choosen is the same as mine, except for the branding on mine is Xeon instead of Core. It's the exact same CPU otherwise. I've always been an AMD person, but these new G0 stepping Intel Quads are great overclockers and really fly at stock speeds. This system is MUCH faster than the machines I've been trying to use for GIS work in a so-called geospatial center, and it cost a fraction of the price to build myself versus buying an overpriced, underpowered box from Dell. Plus, it looks alot better. I would also suggest using 2x2GB sticks of good memory instead of 4x1GB. It'll allow you to go to 8GB if you decided in the future, which Arch64 fully supports.

500W, I think i read somewhere that it would be best to run PSU at half the load of its maximum output for best efficiency.
Running either too low or too high is bad for both efficiency and psu itself.

More important ofcourse would be to buy a decent 80+ psu than look at the wattage only. And that psu is prolly some nobrand crappy one ^^

Thanks all for the advices. I see that there is no problem. I've changed the the Kingstons Rams with 2x 2gb Kingston DDR2 800 , the rest is the same. Also i'm thinking to buy a cpu cooler,  like the Thermaltake Big Typhoon.
