1680x1050 not working with ATI card

I can't seem to get the 1680x1050 native resolution of my LCD working with my ATI X1650 in Arch "current". I've tried configuring X with both:

Xorg -configure

and

hwd -xa

and adding the Modes line to xorg.conf manually and using both the ati and the vesa drivers and nothing seems to work.

My current xorg.conf is here: http://pastebin.ca/871761

For some reason, the resolution it seems to default to is 1920x1440

Thanks.

EDIT: If it helps, the monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 206bw

This is an issue which is corrected in catalyst 8.01, which haven't come to arch's repos yet.

Is there any workaround (besides the obvious of "go nvidia" or install from the ATI binary (from their site))? It's not really a crushing blow, but i got the card for damn cheap and i'd like to use it as it'll prolly give decent performance for the money.

This is an internal, if I were you, I would be patient and wait for the driver to be updated.

Cerebral has been busy with work, but will try to update his out-of-date-packages this weekend, including the catalyst-driver.

You can, as a safe alternative, download the previous version of the catalyst driver which does work.  I have archived the 32-bit packages of catalyst-7.11-2 and catalyst-utils-7.11-1 here:

Re: 1680x1050 not working with ATI card

I have 8.01 and the same card, and am having the same issues. (running x86_64)
I am unable to get a resolution of 1680x1050, which is what my monitor supports.
It defaults to 1024x768.

Re: 1680x1050 not working with ATI card

Here is what I would try. According to your pastebinned xorg.conf:

1. Backup xorg.conf
2. Delete all modelines (lines 104-221), since you are using DPMS=True.
3. Set default Color Depth to 24 (line 239)
4.Add mode "1680x1050" to the beginning of the mode array on line 262.

Restart X

Works for me.

Re: 1680x1050 not working with ATI card

Got mine working by changing the settings on my monitor (ensuring ddc was on)
Then added a Modeline using the information from Xorg.n.log (from /var/log/X11/)

I don't know why none of the automated tools couldn't do that.

Re: 1680x1050 not working with ATI card

I had also same problem. My solution was downloading Ati's homepage newest Catalyst driver. I used read-edid to found my monitors information.

Installing newest Catalyst -> pasteing monitors information by read-edid to xorg.conf -> restarting X and enjoying widescreen. smile
