I would like to see the newly open-sourced micropolis (simcity). In the AUR.

I took a look at it, ran the binary, and the program was too big for my screen and wouldn't scale. The source wouldn't compile and there was no documentation with it...

source wouldn't compile for me either.
the binary package loaded for me, but it was unplayable because the city view screen was only one color, so it was like playing blind.

I gave it another try after seeing the post here by richardj:
Linux Game Tome entry
Got the link:
http://git.zerfleddert.de/cgi-bin/gitwe … EAD;sf=tgz
extracted it, cd in to it.
cd src
make
cp sim/sim ../res
cd ..
./Micropolis
worked great this time.

Great, works!
Perhaps you need to replace the micropolis.png, because i think it violates the EA license addition.
anyway, thx erm67

What is the command for starting micropolis?
Use the Source, Luke!

> $ Micropolis
perhaps its better to rename it to /usr/bin/micropolis

I created the png editing a gif included in the micropolis images dir with gimp, I can add a ™ sign maybe and it should be ok.
perhaps its better to rename it to /usr/bin/micropolis
Good idea

Thanks for the PKGBUILD, erm.
When I run it, it won't scale for me either..the screen is too big. My LCD won't go beyond 1024x768- not sure if this is the problem.

The first screen is made with a big image background-micropolis.xpm 1200x900 and buttons are placed indicating a fixed xy position on that image.
This was probably a proof-of-concept for SimCity, something the author wrote down quickly to demonstrate how good was the game.
It could be changed, with a little patience, rescaling all images (buttons and bkgrnd) and fixing their relative position or writing some code to scale them dynamically. Probably in the future will be fixed in git.
