USB External Sata drive won't automount on plug-in

The drive is sda and partition 2, sda2. It doesn't automount when plugged in.

I am plugging it in via eSata, is this the issue? It reads it fine in fdisk as can see.

I use HAL and have it in daemons. I also belong to hal and dbus and storage groups. Also have thunar-volman on startup.

I guess that you use Xfce as your desktop environment.

Have you seen some icons appear on the desktop?

Besides,
I think you do not need to add any configuration in "/etc/fstab"
thunar/thunar-volman should do all the tricks for you, with HAL.
