I been given a webcam/digital camera all I have on it is its TDC15

Nothing resembles your model in any way. Googling around, it seems that there was a driver for your webcam for linux 2.4.* kernel. While this driver seemed abandoned, there has been some activity about one year ago in its website http://nw802.sourceforge.net/news.html : it seems that the CVS version of the driver could work on a 2.6.* kernel. Just try!

I had a good look on google myself... even on a windows box drivers do not produce anything... bloomin Vista yuk!
Odd that usb code sees device .... maybe will try gphoto and alike see what happens
