Re: totem don't play *.avi...

avi's are just a container format.  Use the "file" command on you problem avi and you will see what it is encoded with.  Then we could suggest which gstreamer plugin to use (although you have most of the usual ones...)

Re: totem don't play *.avi...

the 'file' result is
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A River Runs Through It Cd1.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 720 x 480, 25.00 fps, video: DivX 3 Low-Motion, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 48000 Hz)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

which codec.....???

Re: totem don't play *.avi...

I always wanted to use totem instead of totem-xine... But it always fails at some specific format, sometimes for DVD's or live streams.. sad
