Ipw3945 problems again. [Solved]

Hey Forum.
After updating to latest kernel using pacman, I got a funny problem.
I've looked around and found some others with the same problem. So here's what's going on:
In dmesg:

[root@quasimodo pbj]# dmesg |grep iwl
iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.1.17ks
iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2007 Intel Corporation
iwl3945: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
 sda:<3>iwl3945: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2
iwl3945: Could not read microcode: -2
iwl3945: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -2

So found some others with the same problem.
So Remove all ipw3945 ipw3945d ipw3945-ucode.
modprobe -r ipw3945
Install the different iwl packages
modprobe iwl3945 and restart network and networkmanager - after adding wlan0 etc to rc.conf
now dmesg:

iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.1.17ks
iwl3945: Copyright(c) 2003-2007 Intel Corporation

Looks fine - But no ligth are starting in the wireless.
And iwlist scan shows:

Well have tried the part around vmaster0, and before have a reboot handled that.
But no

So did it all again and allso this time install the kernel26 package again.which also makes a boot image!!!  Same result
So what am I missing!
Caurse now I boot my machine - no wireless module - error in the unicode
remove the module iwl3945
add the module iwl3945
And have the rigth module - But still no ligth and no wireless network.
So what am I doing wrong and how do I fix it -. caurse here the "log"

A couple of things... the ipw/iwl3945 modules are now built INTO the latest kernel.  That's why the kernel upgrade replaces your old module--the only pkg you need now is the 'iwlwifi-3945-ucode' package. Remove anything else.

Secondly, the iwl3945 driver (which is now built into the kernel) does not support the LED light function.  This is a known issue and has been that way since they released this driver framework.  So, the absence of the LED is not indicative of a broken wifi.

So, try reinstalling the package I mention above, along with the latest kernel and see where it gets you.

I'm here on behalf of a friend of mine who doesn't speak English. His problem is that no devices turn up when issuing ifconfig. So that's the real issue he's facing.

Have done that - And also tried with a fresh Packagedatabase - but the same result no matter what!

So still the problem about it all - But cannot use the Wireless network. Still no scan results or anything - even though I'm trying all over the house!  So that didn't help!

Just reporting I have the same problem with a Dell 640m / PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [8086:4222] (rev 02). Same machine works with Kubuntu gutsy and their 2.6.24-7-generic kernel but uses a wlan0_rename device. One difference between the 2 kernels is that Kubuntu has this setting and AL's kernel config has this one unset...

Well - I have solved my problems! Not pretty or anything - but works for me.

In /etc/rc.local:

modprobe -r iwl3945
modprobe iwl3945

Then after logging in to Gnome - The networkmanager accepts that the network is up and logging on to my accesspoint with wpa!
???
But if that solves your problem - go !

For some hardware and drivers, you need to:

ifconfig wlan0 up

before you can do anything. Of course, replace wlan0 with your correct device.

Maybe that'll work.
