2.6.24 and Broadcom Wi-Fi (Dell Wireless 1390)

Hi,
I have compiled kernel 2.6.24.1-2 and ndiswrapper[-utils] 1.52-1 from abs and Broadcom Wi-Fi stopped to work. I have tried removing driver from ndiswrapper and loading it back - doesn't help; ndiswrapper -l reads that driver is loaded, but wlan0 interface does not appear. IEEE 802.11 in kernel is enabled, experimental b43 driver is not compiled (even as a module). Any ideas?

The new kernel broke my Broadcom install also. On my machine the output of dmesg gave me explicit instructions on what to do to get it back working. Now everything runs great.

Welcome to the forums.

I don't see anything like that in my dmesg output. Could you please look up the steps you have done to get it work?

Re: 2.6.24 and Broadcom Wi-Fi (Dell Wireless 1390)

there is a new driver for the kernel, that works on my system, actually made my broadcom device working completely for the first time

Instructions
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43

b43-fwcutter is in AUR
you have to add the b43 module in rc.conf

Thanks for the link! But the thing is that I don't see b43 driver in kernel config. Tried on fresh 2.6.24.1-2 from abs.

You don't need to configure the kernel, the driver framework is built in. Just follow the instructions on the page for your particular card.

It was my fault. The b43 driver did not appear (and was not compiled in) because I copied kernel config from and old version over to 2.6.24. Now it works, thanks for the help!

Re: 2.6.24 and Broadcom Wi-Fi (Dell Wireless 1390)

somehow I tried the b43 module and it iddn't work for me, it was mentioned in the supported device list.

I tried both versions of b43-fwcutter, version 009 and 010 (which is in AUR), and both versions of firmwire, the newest firmware yielded an error, so I changed to the older version, now without any error, my wifi still doesn't work..

Switched back to ndiswrapper for the time being... lol

There's also the bcm43xx-cutter program. Is dmesg giving you any useful feedback?

Not at all, 4318 chips are notorious with BCM43XX, i thought B43 might have changed it, I guess I'll try it again later when a more stable release is out. Ndiswrapper works fine for me.. at least for the moment.

i just tested the new driver b43 and doesn't work at all. i can view wirless networks but i can't connect and if i create new wireless networks nobody can view that.

what do you do to work ndiswrapper? i can't make it work. the connection desn't apper and if i do ndiswrapper -l alternative driver is ssb not bcm4xx

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
