Open Office not running.

I've installed openoffice-base. and when I run the soffice command in the terminal it returns:
I18N: Operating system doesn't support locale ""
I18N: Operating system doesn't support locale "en_US"
when I run ps aux, it shows that openoffice is sleeping.
what's going on and how do I fix this?  I need this program for work.

thank you for any help

Re: Open Office not running.

You probably didn't set the locale correctly when you installed (I've done it, too).

From the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Locale):  "First you have to enable the locales you want being supported by your system. To enable or disable them, the file /etc/locale.gen is used. It contains every locale you can enable, and you have just to uncomment lines you want to do so."  Then "After you've enabled the necessary locales, you have to run locale-gen as root to update them."

also I'm running Fluxbox WM, that might have something to do with the problem.  or maybe something to do with java?

Re: Open Office not running.

negative.  the prompt just sits there and blinks.  I have to ctrl-c to get the command prompt back.
