Hello Everyone!

Hi, This is my first post.

I will soon be a former ubuntu user. I thought it was time to get serious and really do some linux stuff. I've tried Debian, openSuse, Gentoo, Fedora, PClinuxOS... and more... and now I think I'll really plan to get Archlinux up and running and know whats happening under the hood.

I plan on diving into the Archlinux distro when I have a wired connection on my laptop and some time to kill. I'm looking forward to the learning experience, the simplicity and the speed smile

I've read all the newbie guide material on the wiki, but I'll still need two computers to install arch, one for reading some step by step instructions.

Okydoky,

You may hear from me soon!

Why don't you try one of the many available virtualization solutions ? You could just try to be more familiar with Arch before actually install it.

Re: Hello Everyone!

...or just print out the beginner's guide & official install guide. that's what I did to get a core system online. then I just used elinks and irssi if I ran into any trouble before I had X running.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

just that he used gentoo already which is even more suitable to look 'under the hood' than arch is

Re: Hello Everyone!

Done!

My first happy customer smile My new website is at archux.com (which is much much faster and with my own custom layout) and has some more content including how to set up desktop environments. If you want a different DE other than what I have there, tell me and I'll make one.

Re: Hello Everyone!

site looks great smile i clicked on some ads for you tongue heehee... donations
i've never heard of kdemod... cool beans. some other DE's... well... gnome, fluxbox, enlightenment are popular...

what i think you should make is an article for people scared of CLI, "the quickest way out of that dark world with a few quick pacman -S commands to get Xorg, kdemod (or something) and then adding startx to your boot/startup scripts..."

btw, archux.com looked a little messy in my browser: http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i123/ … hot-20.png

: /

anyways, thanx for all the welcoming, folks!

Re: Hello Everyone!

Hmm that's quite weird. I fixed that problem a while ago. Try clearing your cache and refreshing it. I've tested this in Opera, Firefox , Konqueror and Firefox on Windows and I haven't had that problem. By the way thanks for the donations smile

EDIT: Fixed the problem! Just looked at the address bar and fixed that page.
