Unzip "7z"

Hi, I'll post this in the "newbie" corner because I feel so stupid to ask.
I've downloaded a virtualbox image from here http://virtualbox.wordpress.com/ and it comes compressed as "7-zip". When you google for this format you'll find "windowsolutions only" hits. Everybody seems to think that the linux way is too simple to document... leaving me feeling very stupid. But, to be honest, I always rely on mc when it comes to unzipping & untarring. But mc does not recognise this format leaving me in the cold. How do I attak this file on my Arch machine?

Re: Unzip "7z"

when googling how to do software stuff in linux... i ussually incude "ubuntu" next to it... gets way more results since its more popular smile just a tip...

what you want is p7zip i think then you pull a "7z x " on that compressed file wink
try this:

pacman -S p7zip

I agree

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=7z … gle+Search search words '7zip' and 'linux' It returns a page called p7zip which is a POSIX port of 7zip for windows.

Re: Unzip "7z"

Thanks!
[selfdefence]
I was looking for command-line options in the tar or gunzip command. Did not realize that it not included at all in a "standard" linux installation.
