I followed the Arch wiki and installed PulseAudio / Alsa Plugins
Before I only used Alsa and I can see many channels (front, rear etc...)
After I began to use PulseAudio, there is only one "Master" channel left. and the volume is way too low even "master" channel shows 100/100.
So, I removed /etc/asound.conf and use alsa without PulseAudio. Then, I can use alsamixer to adjust volume for individual channels.
Afterwards, I can put back /etc/asound.conf.
This time, the volume is OK.
So, I am wondering if there is a way to use PulseAudio to control individual hardware channels directly?
thanks!

Hi,
I had the same problem. But I have the volume applet in gnome configured to use the alsa mixer.
Alternatively you can run:
$alsamixer -c 0
if your card's number is 0, and set the volume levels there.
Of course this is just a workaround...

On my HP laptop, I have to have the volume all the way up in my Windows boot to work right in Linux boot. (Now that I think about it, I haven't had that problem for awhile, maybe some update fixed it. I'll have to test it next time I'm in windows...)
