Should I.......(web servers and security)

I want to start running my own web server soon. 

So I have a few questions. 

Is it safe to use a new partition on an existing hard drive as the server or do I need a new linux box?

And should I reinstall everything and use Tripwire from a fresh install or is it technically safe to install Tripwire now, suspecting I have no reason to believe my system has been compromised?

Any advice is welcome.

As far as safe, is anything?
As for tripwire, like any .audit project it is better to run after install, yet can it ever be to late?
