What's the output when you type
hwd -s
?

The "MODULES=( 8139too mii slhc)" looks promising if you have a DHL connection. Someone just needs to give you the magic words to whisper into /etc/rc.conf to get DHL running -- I only use cable, so I don't know them
Check the wiki, that should tell you what to do.

Perhaps the r8169 module is what you are looking for? My laptop supposedly has a RealTek 8139 Ethernet Adapter but uses the r8169 module instead of the 8139 family of modules (8139, 8139cp, or 8139too)
[root@localhost ~]# modprobe r8169
See if that module gets your Ethernet working.
The water never asked for a channel, and the channel never asked for water.

nope that didn't get it

I guess I was trying to find out more information about your hardware to see if 8139too is the right module. Type
lspci
and look for the words Ethernet and/or Network. What does it say?
How do you want to connect? Do you want to connect wirelessly, through ethernet or via modem? Has this machine been able to connect with any other operating system? Have you read the wiki page on networkinghttp://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Network?

02:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co. , Ltd. RTL -8139/8139C/8139
and i did read the documentation i did not know what module i needed.
EDIT: I forgot to add that this PC connects through ethernet and it still connects on windows and it also connected with Debian and Ubuntu no problem

If it´s working on debian and ubuntu, you could use lsmod to find which modules they load for it.

warning: current locale is invalid; using default "C" local error: 'hwd': not found in sync db
OK. You need to set your locale. Follow the instructions here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Loc … ry_locales.
In Arch, the user (you) is in charge of the system. Nothing happens that you don't explicitly set up. That's the upside. The downside is that few things, other than hardware detection, "just work."
Do you have a router? What's it's address? Are you using dhcp?
Post the following lines from your rc.conf: HOSTS=, eth0=, INTERFACES=, gateway=, ROUTES=.
What's in /etc/hosts?

Yes i have a router it is 2WIRE857 2701HG-B. I have no idea what its address is but i do need to know. Im not sure if im using dhcp.
this is all thats in the Networking section of rc.conf (excluding comments)

Yeah, I know. But if your locale is not set correctly, you can't do much.
Yes i have a router it is 2WIRE857 2701HG-B. I have no idea what its address is but i do need to know. Im not sure if im using dhcp.
You're probably using dhcp, then. Do you have it installed (pacman -Q dhcp)? Back up your rc.conf, then change the eth0 line to "dhcp". I use a linksys router; it's address is 192.168.1.1, so I changed the gateway line to use that. That's why I was wondering. Your router might very well use the default address.
My hostname from rc.conf is "arch". Here is my /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 arch.workgroup arch
Change the eth0 line and add your hostname to the hosts file. Then
ping 192.168.0.1
Btw, you can access Arch from within your ubuntu cd. Follow the instructions here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … nux_Volume.

This line is wrong : ROUTERS=(!gateway)
change it to :
ROUTES=(gateway)
(you are currently using a fixed ip-address and for those the exclamation mark must be removed) .
If that doesn't work, change to dhcp as suggested above . just make sure you use ROUTES

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?

ok so this is what i changed in my /etc/rc.conf file
eth0="dchp"
ROUTES=(gateway)
and the only thing i changed in my /etc/hosts file was my hostname which is also arch.
and when i try to ping 192.168.0.1 get a "Destination Host Unreachable error"
i hate networking

Yes, but the hostname in your rc.conf is Arch. Try that and see what happens.

Change rc.conf to this :
eth0="dchp"
ROUTES=(!gateway)
NOTE THE EXCLAMATION MARK
reboot and post the output of ifconfig .

That's too bad. I was hoping that you hadn't posted because your problem was fixed.
