Hi!
People use ArchLinux on servers, workstations. Just curious how many people are keeping their uptime as long as possible? Do you have personal records?
For example, uptime on my desktop machine now:
18:44:53 up 3 days, 22:05, 1 user, load average: 0.68, 0.72, 0.73
And I'm keeping it until something will go wrong or serious updates will be available. And my record is 40 days... but on Windows XP

My XP never lasted more than 3 days --'.
As for the rest, I'm a power-off-no-standby evangelist, so since I don't use my computer as a server I simply turn it off as often as possible. Kinda disappointing, actually...
I'm ready to compete on startup/shutdown times though. (Well, if I'm not too lazy to compile yet another kernel.)
What does not kill you will hurt a lot.

I turn my computer off every night, it's a waste of power to me. I used to keep it on when I ran f@h, but since I've reinstalled I have yet to set it back up.
Why do some of you keep your workstations on for days at a time?

top - 18:18:46 up 29 days, 7:59, 3 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00
From my home server, I reboot it fairly regularly though, that's the longest it's ever been.

From my arch router.. dont rememer why I even rebooted it last time..
21:39:16 up 14 days, 24 min, 2 users, load average: 0.78, 0.60, 0.64
btw, does these load numbers mean its very busy?

That's not an Arch system though
My Arch systems usually have less than 7 days uptime.

My server has about 6 days because of a power supply issue.

Since right now I do not have a need to leave my server on, it is at like 2 days and my laptop turns off nightly. Before I had an uptime of about 30 days before I updated the kernel and rebooted.

Are you logged into X or a console? If X, what login manager are you using? I once had a problem with slim where it wouldn't register my X sessions so I always saw "0 users" unless I logged on in a console. Having slim run sessreg solved that problem.
Anyway,
$ uptime
22:48:02 up 11 days, 8:36, 2 users, load average: 0.16, 0.15, 0.15
I admit when I'm not actually using the machine I suspend to RAM. That way I can be up and running in a couple of seconds.

Yes, I logged into X using slim... Don't think it is worth fixing though.

Power failure last sunday(February 24, 2008) and no UPS, at that time uptime was 64 days

Yes, I logged into X using slim... Don't think it is worth fixing though.
Add the following to your slim.conf:
# Commands executed when starting and exiting a session.
# They can be used for registering a X11 session with
# sessreg. You can use the %user variable
#
sessionstart_cmd /usr/bin/sessreg -a -l $DISPLAY %user
sessionstop_cmd /usr/bin/sessreg -d -l $DISPLAY %user
If you have a new ATI video card and you're using the proprietary drivers, the ATI powersave script won't work if you don't have your X session registered. If you've got a laptop this is a big deal. For me, it's the difference between 2 hours and 3 hours 45 minutes on battery.

Bragging about one's uptime is so... oh well, nevermind
And yes, keeping one's computer on just for the sake of uptime is a waste of power and should be avoided imho.
There can be a few reasons for letting it on though
Why do some of you keep your workstations on for days at a time?
Some people do not have a second machine to act as a server / downloader so they keep their workstation on to finish the odd torrent or such.
Or maybe they were working on something that requires too much open files or programs so opening a gazilion things when you power it on the next morning is too tedious to worth the extra electricity bill.
