Whenever i try to play a movie in Kaffeine, it begins to tear, and uses up all system resources so that I cannot use keyboard shortcuts to either kill kaffeine, X or do anything. The only option is either to wait for the .avi to finish, or to hard reset.
VLC does not have this issue.
I am running on x86_64.

Have you tried to change the video driver in the configuration?

Yes, but it doesn't work any better.
In addition, KMplayer doesn't have this problem (either with mplayer or xine) but does have other problems (no video scaling, cropped video).

Does this problem occur only in full screen (resized) mode, or independent to the window size? Did you try to use Xvideo overlay?

Maybe there is a new turret, or some walls have moved. Or perhaps someone has temporarily removed the floor under your bed."

For a while it was only happening if the window size was above a certain amount (but filling most of the screen). Recently it happened every time.
I tried changing xine engine parameters (settings, xine engine settings, video, beginner settings, driver), but a choice of anything but "auto" throws an error, about how it is set to auto.
