Did you insert the conky panel into xfce one? If yes, is it possible with gnome-panel too?
P.s. Big up for your musical taste!
Not exactly. It's a bit of a hack. The Conky window is actually an always on top (window hint: above) desktop window and place right over the panel. To get the themed panel to show through I set pseudo-transparency on conky and then actually drew the panel on my desktop wallpaper.
Relevant parts of config:
own_window yes
own_window_hints above,undecorate,skip_taskbar,skip_pager,sticky
own_window_type desktop
own_window_transparent yes
maximum_width 820
gap_x 165
gap_y -25
If you don't have a themed panel (ie. just a solid colour) turn pseudo-transparency off. If you do have a themed panel, use Gimp to draw your themed panel on your wallpaper. It's a hack but it works!

The current desktop. At some point I need to come up with a cooler hostname for this computer.
Since joining last month:
- Changed from XFCE to Xmonad
- Redid my entire file structure to be more concise
- Switched almost everything to cli tools, except for the web which I changed to icecat, and I'd go to the firefox beta but it lacks vimperator.
- Generally it's pretty rare to see my computer go over 10% cpu use
- I've never seen it have more than 60 processes when I'm not using firefox/icecat
Apparently, minimalism is awesome.
The next thing on my list is to get a good dzen running with xpm icons, but I'm saving that until after I've read through my python book and I want to tackle some scripting one weekend.
Edited because my thumbnail is acting weird.

vim? EMACS? Pssh, I code in Scribus.

coarseSand: vimperator works in firefox3, you need the 0.6 snapshot. Search for vimperator on wikipedia (yes I know ), and there it gives you a link for the beta version.

This month I finally decided to move on to something lighter, after testing KDE4 for a while (my machine is just getting too old). I will see how it develops and keep using KDE4 progs which I like very much, but for now it seems that I'll be trying out Openbox. It's nothing original, just ideas and wallpapers taken from other Arch screenshots, but I am enjoying the speed and simplicity.

Thanks much Gigamo, I suspected it might, but I wasn't sure where people were finding it. :P Of course actually searching myself might have been a better ideas, but oh well.
Edit: Yep, still a nub. I have the snapshot, and two questions: 1) Where do I build the snapshot?, 2) Should I be using firefox3 from the reps or download it from Mozilla and run in its own folder? I've been looking around and neither /opt/mozilla or the mozilla version have the src/ or downloads/ directories that vimperator 0.6 is supposed to be built from/installs itself to.
Sorry for the heavy off-topicness, I may lift this edit into another thread.

Get "firefox3" from the unstable repo.
as for vimperator, install the xpi here: http://vimperator.driftaway.org/

Thanks again Gig, hadn't tried navigating to the snapshot servers from inside of ff3.

I was wondering. Can I also post non-Arch Linux desktops here?

I have to agree with that idea Spook, but I just keep things dark all the time to avoid eye strain later.
Hmm.... maybe setting up a script to change my .Xdefaults and xmonad.hs files based on time of day is in the works. If I can ever wrap my head around Python that is.
@bb10: I think it's safe to go ahead, but expect a massacre if you post Windows. Don't be like the guy in the 2007 LnF awards who nominated explorer.exe for fastest WM.

If I keep things dark all the time, I can't see anything during the day.

Cool And about windows, I like it so I use it. I love to use/explore all the different operating systems out there, thats the way I am. And I don't care what others think of me using/liking windows.

I'm new to Arch ( and to Linux in general really) but I just love it ! What a great distro. I am learning so much with the help of this great community. This is my first attempt at a desktop.
Conky config as well as inspiration and determination from Lyrae. Your art makes me go ahhh

Damn bb10, you're quite a collector. I can appreciate someone using Windows in order to explore it, even though Vista is still fail in my mind.
Might I suggest using something other than Gnome for your Arch install though? You've done a good job with the look of Gnome on Ubuntu, but Arch is a much more modular distro so it's worth trying out some other ones. Off the top of my head possible DEs/WMs are:
- KDE (Boo, though KDEmod is supposed to fun. I just hate the feel of Qt)
- Gnome
- XFCE
- The *box WMs (Openbox, Fluxbox, and I've heard of Blackbox, but I've never seen it used lately)
- pekwm
- evilwm
- e17
- awesome
- xmonad
- dwm
- wmii
- ratpoison
More or less in descending order of weight. It's silly yet entertaining to run a program that could've been in its prime a decade ago on a modern processor.

What gtk theme is that? If that is a gtk theme, the one with the green border top/bottom...

Awesome 2.2-rc2, status bar powered by conky-cli.

Another nice minimal setup. I tried awesome someday ago but failed to add conky info to my statusbar. Would you please share your awesomerc and your statusbar config, as well as your wallpaper? Thanks.

My Desktop (I like it simple):
Simple? I don't want to be picky, but you've got 2 "taskbars", conky and desktop icons...
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.

First screenshot I'm posting in a looong long while. Finally got myself away from KDE / XFCE and took the time to configure Openbox a bit, mostly using stuff I've seen on these screenshot threads. Really enjoying the lack of clutter and usability.
Is this bmpanel? What config/theme do you use?
Thanks

The gtk theme is here the top link, but the green borders on the top and bottom are from my openbox theme. I havn't put the openbox theme up yet, but it's a custom version of the arch linux theme.
