Arch-Bubble-Icons

When I used to be a Gentoo user, one of the ebuilds I emerged by default was the gentoo-artwork package. Included in that package was a number of 'bubble icons' and new ones where created by the userbase every week (forum thread here).
The ebuild has a GLP-2 licence, the bubble icons at IonBox have a "do whatever the f*ck you want" license.

I'd like to create an AUR package with those icons and I am more then willing to add new ones to the package if anyone creates any.
Another option is to create an entire set from scratch to call our own (and create an AUR package for that).

The 'bubble template' can be downloaded here (Gimp file).

So if anyone creates a new bubble, post it here, and I'll include it into the package (whether it I'll be 100% Arch user contributions or including the existing Gentoo icons).

I would love to get some feedback on this idea, ranging from "you're an idiot" to "you're a genius" (motivation included) big_smile

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

I've completed a (working) PKGBUILD, but am also looking into hosting the file somewhere + website where all can see the icons in the package (and see if there is one missing they wish to make.
So nothing is in AUR yet, I'll tinker with the website in the next few days and post the link if I've finished it.

I've also made 2 logo's now myself; eve-online and thunar. I wanted to do one with the Arch logo, but since the logo competition is almost at it's end, I'll wait for the new logo to be choosen and make a bubble of it then (if no one else beats me to it).

Meanwhile, feedback of any kind is appreciated. wink

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

Awesome work! I've always wanted to take the time to do a logo set like this, but i never found the time to do so.

It's nice to see that there are others interested in this. smile

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

Just uploaded version 0.1 to AUR. A simple yaourt -S arch-bubble-icons (or whatever software you use to work with AUR packages) will install it for you.
I'll try to add some more icons over the next few days and once I have a whole bunch of them, I'll upload a new version.

Anyone is welcome to post either their request, or their own creations. Any icons posted here will be (assuming the quality is okay) included in the next release.

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

I just submitted version 0.2.3 to AUR. Anyone is still free to make their own bubble icons and share them through this package (PM me if you have one or more) and I'm still taking requests for bubbles which are then added to the Arch-Bubble-Icons ASAP.

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

Well, if there is an updated version of it, I'll update it. If not, the YAPG peeps should update their logo so I can update the bubble version wink

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

I've just uploaded a new version, which includes the new Arch logo's as they are available on the website.
To celebrate this, I thought it would be worth bumping arch-bubble-icons to version 0.3.0.

Hope you all enjoy it. And we still do - as always - accept requests and your own designs for inclusion in the AUR package.

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

OMG! You're a GENIUS! I mean, I really really love these icons, but was always to lazy to actually go and get something like a PKGBUILD setup. Thanks a lot, really!

Now, off to download it!

I made an AUR helper once.
I also go by evaryont and nogweii elsewhere on the internet.

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

Is it possible to make these into some sort of a KDE icon theme one can install through the KDE Icons section of the KDE CC?  I have no idea how to make icon themes or themes in general but I hoped someone else might know if this is a feasible idea.

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

Plus I don't use icon themes, so I would not know how to slam it into the PKGBUILD if my life depended on it. Sorry, mate.

Really? I pilfered it from Gentoo. It's released under GPL, so it's allowed (and credit to the Gentoo l33t icons is in the text file in the package). Pilfer away as far as I'm concerned, just as long as you stick to the GPL license. wink

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

this has nothing to do with gpl.  It has to do with feeling like a whore for using one distro and then using an icon pack for another.  If i used gentoo (which i used to) and used arch's icon pack, id feel filthy....

Re: Arch-Bubble-Icons

New release, version 0.4.0, now in AUR. Lots of new icons included and many more under way in the next releases.

I'm still taking requests for new icons, so if the icon of your favorite app is missing, post it here and it will be included in the next release!

Exaile will be included in the next release. Spotify seems to be a music site. Not sure how to install that with pacman and use the png icon for a bubble icon wink
