Need a "usb" group for ordinary users

Hi,

I had a failure to access a USB device (PhidgetServo) from an application I wrote, which uses libusb functions, when I was logged in as an ordinary user. I eventually solved the problem by adding a "usb" group and adding the ordinary user to it. I also had to add GROUP="usb" to  the usb_device udev rules.

I expect this will be lost at the next upgrade of udev, so could I request that a "usb" group is added to default /etc/group and the corresponding GROUP="usb" to udev rules?

My thanks in advance.

Re: Need a "usb" group for ordinary users

That would be great. I've been wondering about that since i set up fprint (thinkfinger alternative), and had to allow specific users usb access.
Naturally, i can set it up myself, but it would be great if is was already set up, like other groups are.
