mednafen executable not found?

hi guys,

i just did an old fashioned ./configure make install for mednafen. i now have the executable called "mednafen" in my /usr/local/bin directory but whenever i try to start it from a terminal i get "mednafen -command not found"
its really frustrating and i cant figure out why it wont start. i tried "mednafen --help" and "mednafen /path/to/rom" and i still keep getting "command not found"

any ideas why this wont work?

You need to add /usr/local/bin to your PATH.

You need to add /usr/local/bin to your PATH.

i tried it both ways. with /usr/local/bin path and from my home directory
