Skype not working despite following wiki article

Hi,

My microphone hasn't been working in skype for a while now, so I decided to try option B from the wiki to configure skype and see if it would help, however after following all the instrctions, I keep getting the following error message when I run /usr/bin/askype and /usr/bin/skype

I don't know much about sound or alsa, but I can play music and other sound fine, it's just the mic that doesn't work. I was just surprised to find the wiki directions don't work and think it's probably a problem on my end, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
