Gnome 2.22.0

Hi.
So the latest Gnome desktop is out packed with many new features and improvements. For example compositing effects without compiz, evolution integrates with google calendar and so on.
So here's the question: when we're going to see gnome 2.22.0 in arch repos?
Can't wait, because I'm having problems with compiz and integrated effects would be cool.

Sweet. Except for being a memory sucking whore, gnome rocks. It's the only usable desktop until KDE4.1.

I can't wait too. Where did you read about compositing without compiz? Sounds interesting. Epiphany with webkit is also cool. Totem plugin to browse Youtube also.

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

Why can't I see anything about this new version on the Gnome homepage? Is this a pre-release?

You  never do. All big software projects updated their pages after the packages have been propagated onto all mirrors, or at least most of them.

There is a "review" of sorts here: http://www.tectonic.co.za/?p=2248

Short on info, but I am still looking forward to the new release.

It's the full release. All of it's packages were uploaded to the Gnome servers on Monday. The official release is today:

Just follow the time line.

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

FYI, there has been Gnome 2.22 related work in Arch's CVS tree recently. I can't give any precise date as I'm not the one in charge of gnome (JGC is) but I guess they'll be in testing in a few weeks or so.

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

Evolution continues to be improved with new support for Google Calendars and custom message labels (tagging) for your email.

Can't wait to try it! I've been meaning to leave my GMail account for some time now since it's not alway that I have internet access in my laptop. I just hope it's infinite number of tags/labels and if possible to assign a color for each one and maybe (please!) to create views based on labels - Yes I'm thinking very similar to the GMail interface.

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

They have updated the website. The changes seem quite interesting, and it seems like Gnome is gonna be faster and more responsive. I'm liking their approach to things, even though I hate the WIMP interface tongue

Re: Gnome 2.22.0

2.22.0 should be done by sunday for x86_64. i686 will follow one week later.

I'm building with libtool 2.2 and gcc 4.3, so GNOME 2.22 stays in testing until gcc 4.3 and libtool have moved to core, which will happen after Tobias has created the new release ISO files.

Thank you very much JGC for your hard work ! I believe this must take a lot of time for a single man, and doing so fast really show your devotion to the community. Again, thank you very much smile

I have a little question : do you plan to include a PolicyKit dependency and make this new feature enabled with Gnome ?
PolicyKit seems quiet promising, but I haven't seen any package for it, even in the AUR, so I do not expect it to be available now : I was just curious ...

Thanks,
Chicha

I hope this is a good release. I'm a KDE fan and I'm about to install KDE 4 SVN but I intend to give GNOME 2.22 a shot as well.
