I think the programs not loading is to do with the /etc/hosts file. Make sure your host name in /etc/rc.conf is appended to the end of the 127.0.0.1 line in /etc/hosts.

The errors you are getting with fluxbox is to do with your ~/.fluxbox folder. If you haven't already, do:

cp -R /usr/share/fluxbox /home/username/.fluxbox
touch /home/username/.fluxbox/apps

Reboot is meant to be a root only command by default.

The fluxbox menu comes with entries of a lot programs, regardless if they are installed or not, the same as openbox, pekwm, and I'm sure others. There is a reload in the menu, but you can also do.. "fluxbox_generate_menu -ds" in the console which will scan in the appropriate areas.
