Hi
I'd like to use suspend on my laptop but I've got a problem. Grub loads for about 15 seconds if I suspend the system to disk which makes the use of it quite pointless. The problem seems to be that my root partition is reiserfs and that I don't have a separate boot-partition. Grub scans the partition for ages until it brings up the menu. So I saw to options to solve my problem but both options don't seem to work for me:
- Make a separate boot partition:
I've got 3 primary partitions, one of them is a swap partition, and an extended partition with other partitions in there:
/dev/sda1 * 1 832 6289888+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/sda2 833 976 1088640 82 Linux Swap / Solaris
/dev/sda3 986 7751 51150960 f W95 Erw. (LBA)
/dev/sda5 986 3551 19398928+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/sda6 3552 5840 17304808+ b W95 FAT32
/dev/sda7 5841 6991 8701528+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda8 6992 7751 5745568+ 83 Linux
I tried to decrease the size of the swap partition and create a boot-partition but as I already have 4 primary partitions I'm unable to create a new one.
- Use grub2
I thought about trying grub2, there's even a package in the AUR. Is there anyone who has successfully used grub2?
As this is my only PC around atm, I don't wanna trash it
Any advice welcome!
Haven't been here in a while. Still rocking Arch.
