i have installed arch on my new pc 2x now and each time it is unable to mount /boot/. In the arch setup i can format and install ok and when i run fdisk -l it is listed. But when i look in /dev/ i only have sda no sdaX so I cannot mount to edit any configs. When i start up arch it appears to try and mount/load whatever it does a/some sata device/s but fails as I do not have any plugged in. I have the feeling it is mounting the wrong device. How can i rectify this with a new install?

Are the appropriate dev-entries there when you boot from the install-cd?
ps: Libata is used for ide and sata drives, so it it quite normal to see sda, even for ide-drives. Libata uses the scsi convention for naming...
