I've just started using Ob3 and was wondering if anyone can help me find this particular setting. I have googled so much my eyes hurt and all I've come up with is this setting from Ob2:
---------------------------------------------- This is from the Ob2 website-------------------------
session.screenX.opaqueMove
When this is enabled, moving a window moves the entire window in real-time. This is sometimes referred to as "Show window contents while moving". When this is disabled, a rectangular box is drawn where the window will be placed, and the window is moved after the operation is completed.
example: session.screen0.opaqueMove: False
----------------------------------------------Ob3 rc.xml file is entirely different-------------------
I'm using Obconf and it only has this option for resizing not moving. I even checked the rc.xml and attempted to edit it by hand adding a <move></move> element with drawContents set to no, but this didn't work either. This option exists in gnome, xfce, wmi and windows. I know it wouldn't be a major drawback if Ob3 didn't support this feature, it's a great wm, but I'd really like to be able to hide the contents of windows when I move them. So, please, if anyone knows how to do this in Ob3 let me know. I don't know why it'd be such a secret setting, it's just a rectangle.
Thanks in advance

I have the same Problem. Same Problem when resizing windows. I set "drawContents" to no in inrc.xml but it does not work.
<resize>
<drawContents>no</drawContents>
<popupShow>Nonpixel</popupShow>
<!-- 'Always', 'Never', or 'Nonpixel' (xterms and such) -->
<popupPosition>Center</popupPosition>
<!-- 'Center' or 'Top' -->
</resize>
I like Openbox very much and if this problem could be fixed OB would be the perfekt WM for me.
EDIT:
I filed a bugreport to the openbox bugzilla

The Bug was closed, Openbox does not support drawing just the outlines.

the option works, it's just not doing what other window managers have done.
the frame still resizes, but the window's contents inside it are not changed
until you finish.
There is also a feature request for this. With this comment.

using composite also makes things stop redrawing. this has been requested a
few times, but it doesn't seem very important as no one has cared to attempt
any code for it still. the one place this is truly useful is in a vnc-like
environment, and those can do the move/resize in wireframe mode overriding the
window manager.
