Weird KDEmod question

I've been using KDEmod and I noticed something strange.

When I click and drag to form a selection box on my desktop, it slightly lags...

UNLESS I have another window open, regardless if it is minimized or not.

For example, I'll drag a large selection box on my desktop, and it will drag rather slowly and freeze up a little... Then I'll open up Konsole, minimize it, and I can drag selection boxes the same size very quickly with no slowdown.

Any idea why this happens?

Hmm, it doesn't happen ALL the time. And I can't trace it to any particular process... And even if I could why do additional windows open get rid of the laggy effect?
