Since linux 2.6.24 my dvd drive (ide) isn't recognized anymore, the device nodes in /dev are there but apps can't open anything from the drive and I get this error on dd or hdparm -tT:
read() failed: Input/output error
I'm now running with the ide hook enabled in mkinitcpio, when I use the pata hook I get the same error.
Does anyone have an idea? I'd like to get the drive working again... I'm not sure which files are useful, I'll post info when needed.

DVD mounting doesn't work anymore. CD "works" but so slow that I can't use it (for example, extracting a song with sound-juicer takes 12 minutes without encoding time).
dmesg only says :

program sound-juicer not setting count and/or reply_len properly
