Hi Guys,
I am in love, i am so in love with Archlinux. I was able to install it very smoothly. I am trying to install Skype. I followed enabling the community respository and use pacman -S skype. I always got the error saying that skype was not found. So i downloaded the .tat.gz. From here i need some guidance. I am using Archlinux x86-64 bit version. Please help me. I am still learning how to use pacman. So any help is highly appreciated. BTW, i was trying to follow this guide http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Skype

There is no 64bit version of skype so you need to install "bin32-skype" package + dependencies using AUR.
Here is the link to the AUR bin32-skype package: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7914
Here is the link for a wiki article about AUR: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR
You might also have a look at yaourt, which is a wrapper for pacman that automates installing/maintaining packages from AUR: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … all_Yaourt
If you want to be able to "pacman -S skype"... install 32bit Arch

Arch doesn't provide the skype package for 64bit due to compilation problems. See this page.
I think this is a problem common to the linux version of skype, and a 64bit version doesn't seem to be on the cards:

I'm not entirely sure whether there are ways to hack around this, but I can recommend ekiga as a great alternative.
flack 2.0.6: menu-driven BASH script to easily tag FLAC files (AUR)
knock-once 1.2: BASH script to easily create/send one-time sequences for knockd (forum/AUR)

Man now i am elated. You guys rock. All the Archuxers rock. Thanks for quick replies. I hope i don't have to burn another Distro CD. I will try the ways you guys suggested. How do i install 32 bit arch. See my problem is that for ever program i have to look for the right pacman -S *******. So if you guys have more information that helps to learn, please pass on. For example lets say i have downloaded the Skype bin32 version. Okay i am able to follow the AUR guide. Let me see how it goes. Once again you guys rock.

skottish, bin32-skype package is the same. It installls lib32-* libraries on which skype depends, and downloads skype 32-bit package to build it on 64-bit environment. And you can update it automatically by yaourt
