Howto modify the boot CD?

Could somebody show me how to replace the kernel and module set on the installation CD successfully? I'm having problems out the ears.

I get my custom kernel to boot up, but then I get unrecognized format (tar) errors when loading modules, and then I run out of space on device, and then I have invalid package repos. All the errors are somewhat incomplete and a little uninformative.

Is there a step-by-step on replacing the kernel and modules on the installation CD?

I've read the live CD guide, but it is waaay more than I want to do.

I have no clue how to do this (now you can ask Judd why I'm documenting here?). If you get it worked out, posting a guide to the wiki would be much appreciated.

Well, I've made a little bit of progress... I should start taking notes on what I do. wink
