i cant do "cd somefolder"
so i want to change the default terminal
how is it done?

Did you just do a big system upgrade? Many configuration files have changed. Do a
ls -l /etc/*pac*
and merge any .pacnew or .pacsave file changes with your config files.

i reinstalled arch via ftp
and i dont have any old configs

What DE/WM are you running? In gnome, it would be system > preferred applications > system, or you add this to .bashrc:
TERM=xterm
export TERM
where you can change xterm to mrxvt or whatever you have installed.
