[Solved] Thunderbird and lightning display and creating calendar

I was having issues with thunderbird and the lightning plugin.  I was having two main issues,  1) the display of the calendar pane  2) creating new calendars

1) After installing lightning, the calendar pane (displays list of calendars) is pushing the folder pane(displays mail accounts and local folders) over to the right.  Rather than alternating which is displayed when you click the Mail or Calendar buttons at the bottom as was intended.

2) I was unable to create any calendars.  When trying to create, I'd give a name and choose a color and clicking the Next button did nothing.  Same thing for creating Tasks, etc.

After many many many hours of searching (and having this same issue on my old install of Ubuntu) I finally found this:

I was able to solve this by running:

# pacman -S libstdc++5

More than anything I'm just hoping that this can possibly help someone else out and save them some time.
