I wouldn't suggest a DE at all. Not sure what you mean when you say that window managers aren't "user-friendly".

I have seen that many ppl still want to "show off" their customized wm's in Desktop Env threads.
Desktop Environments are meant for non-geeks JFYI.
without Desktop Env and suggesting to a newbie user to use ratpoison something sucks!

Either Gnome or Kde.thats the answer.

I agree. Try them. I installed my father Linux on his laptop and he tried KDE and GNOME. He chose GNOME. My sister chose KDE. Is there a problem with having 2 or 3 DEs installed?

No, not usually. I used to have KDE, GNOME and XFCE all installed so I could determine which on I liked best big_smile (but now using fluxbox)
