I strongly suggest compiling awesome from the latest GIT clone. Community package probably still has awesome version without -k option to check .awesomerc file syntax.
The -k is present in the community package.

yes, besides I think it is wrong to advise people to use development builds, as they are what it says, in development.

and if there is something wrong with awesome-git in AUR, contact the maintainer of that package and do not advise people in the wiki to install it manually. There is a reason we have a package manger
