ov51x-jpeg works in xawtv but not in Skype

Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem with my webcam. I've made my 041e:4052 Creative Live! Vista IM work in my new Arch Linux. Unfortunately, it works only in xawtv and similiar.

Obviously I have used the ov51x-jpeg-1.5.6 modules with the skype-patch. But it doesn't want to work. The only thing I can see in the "Camera Test" is black screen.

When I run xawtv -nogda -c /dev/video0 everything is good and I can see myself.

Can someone tell me what the problem is? Is it my OS or my camera... or just my skills?

I will be glad, if someone can help me with my cam.

Unfortunately there are still alot of issues with the ov51x-jpeg driver..

From experience skype seems to work from version to version of the driver, I'd recommend you try downgrading the driver and see what happens.

Otherwise, skypes forum is full of random fixes and patches that might or might not work

I own exactly the same webcam and it works without any problem with the ov51x-jpeg-1.5.6 here. There was no need to patch the sources, the skype patch was merged with the mainline code some time ago. The only thing i had to do was to add "options ov51x-jpeg forceblock=1" to /etc/modprobe.conf.

EDIT: 1.5.7 works without patching as well.
