I bought myself a new soundcard but now I can't get it to output sound...
What am I doing wrong?
rc.conf
MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
#MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
MODULES=(e1000 snd-ice1712 soundcore)
mkinitcpio.conf
MODULES="pata_acpi pata_amd ata_generic sata_nv ext2 snd_ice1712"

This card uses the envy24contol for controlling sound output / input ... Run it first and see what happens. From what I've read the envy24control is a little more complicated than say alsamixer, but, ultimately will give you more control.
I've been blowing through the soundcards lately to find "the one" for me. This one's being shipped to me right now. Enjoy the card.

Thanks alot, you saying the card is good makes me feel better
How do i start envy24control then?
Aha, I need to install alsa-tools... To bad the PKGBUILD in aur isn't working then...
EDIT:
If you get your Audiophile 2496 working can you please tell me how you did it?
I've spnt most of my day to get the freckin soundcard to work and now after several hours of messing around
I gave up with alsa support and I'm now using oss which seems to suck badly... Sound is lagging behind and stuff like that...
(I sent you a mail too)

I am not currently running Arch (or linux for that matter) but I have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (I assume this is what you are talking about) and it has never given me any problems. I have always followed the instructions in the Wiki [http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ALSA] without issues. And yes, this card is quite good. I just checked the MODULES line in my old rc.conf file, and the relevant entries are snd-ice1712 and snd-pcm-oss; you might want to try those.
