Tool to log disk access / or what wakes up my harddisk

Hi,

when I activate power management for my hard drive it spins down after some time but
spins up some seconds later again.

Is there a tool to identify which daemon/process/whatever is accessing the hard drive ?

Best regards,
Ingo

You may be able to use powertop in the [community] repo for finding out whats causing the problem. Not entirely sure if its designed to measure HD usage too though.

flack 2.0.6: menu-driven BASH script to easily tag FLAC files (AUR)
knock-once 1.2: BASH script to easily create/send one-time sequences for knockd (forum/AUR)

Re: Tool to log disk access / or what wakes up my harddisk

Powertop is a fine thing. But this isn't telling me what program is spinning up my harddrive (or I didn't understand how to do so with it).

It looks like firefox is the cause. If the hard drive is in standby and I hit ctrl+f (for find) it spins up the drive, as some other functions in firefox too.

I've ordered an express card ssd (32GB) now and I am going to start/install everything on it that would wake my disk up and use the disk for stuff like games.
I have no clue if this is going to work ;-)
