Hi, I'm kinda new to archlinux, and wondered if there is an simple, console based sound mixer (like the ones you got in kde, windows and gnome etc.).

$ alsamixer , if nothing happens $ pacman -S alsa-utils , and try again
arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

i get a nice little error message,
[eirik@death eirik]$ alsamixer
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
how to fix this?

go figure i fixed it myself... i had to edit /etc/udev/permissions.d/udev.permissions file and change it (in the audio section "snd/* root:root:0660") from root:root to root:users in case someone else was wondering
