Updated ArchChannel page | #archlinux rules/guideline discussion

I've done a small:rolleyes: update to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ArchChannel but it still needs improvement.

So, I would love comments/edits/whatever on the page, and also:
A discussion on what you think about the rules/guidelines listed.

Re: Updated ArchChannel page | #archlinux rules/guideline discussion

IMO channel operators, and especially the ones who are active talking etc. should first kick and then ban without warning users who are offtopic and troll, or ask very simple questions without searching first. isnt that the whole point of having rules? only ops ive seen been concerned about them rules are klapmuetz, mucknert & tomkx.

I do agrea that sometimes the @ do let things slide a bit to far. But kicking without a warning is imo way to hard, specialy for: "or ask very simple questions without searching first"

That's what !rtfm and !rtfw are for tongue

Nope, the topic don't. (not that anyone reads it anyway)

At the moment the topic is

[ Welcome to #archlinux (!rules) || Warning: the 2007.08 iso's are buggy, use ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/iso/2008.03/ ; You can also check out !rc-iso and !testiso ]

Edit: Just changed the topic ^_^

Re: Updated ArchChannel page | #archlinux rules/guideline discussion

dolby - odd coincidence this, seeing as we're talking about warnings etc. but this is a warning for you: offensive language is not tolerated in this forum.

In general, I agree with MrE on your 'no-warning kick' suggestion - obvious trolls, spammers, and similar trouble makers will be booted immediately, everyone else gets some leeway. Re people asking simple questions, the best policy IMO is to give general directions/clues/hints/tips/etc to help them answer their own question.

Re: Updated ArchChannel page | #archlinux rules/guideline discussion

The problem is offtopic could be a range of things.

Offtopic might be asking how to compile a kernel, or what is good program to do X and view Y.  I feel that as long as no one is attempting to get help the and the channel is idle, it is ok to be offtopic, as long as it doesn't get out of hand.

Banning and kicking users without warning is dumb and stupid, unless if they are clearly spamming the channel.
