cutting edge distro

Hey guys
I use arch and am familiar with its cutting edge make it yourself approach. I am also familar with things such as gentoo whcih can be cutting edge and things like sidux, whcih are based on a whole unstable branch.
What I dont know is what else im misisng. What other distros are out there that by default come with a little less polished software for the sake of having the bleeding edge.

here's why I ask-
OOo, for example, just went to 2.4, but you can download the beta of OOo 3.0 already (which I have done, and its totally useable).
I want a distro that will, by default, or with only a little extra tweeking, let me use my package manager to get things like this.
I've read about SVN and things like that, but I dont feel like I totally get what that is, and if its what im looking for.

Thanks
Miesnerd

Re: cutting edge distro

If you don't mind using XFCE you might look at Vector Linux or Sidux, I believe, which might do what you're asking about.  Other than that, Linux From Scratch is the only other distro I'm aware of that you can basically add to at your leisure or make as bleeding edge as you wish.

Re: cutting edge distro

thanks, any others?
I've checked into and installed sidux a few times. Maybe its time to give it a fair shot.
Vector, really? I'll look into it again. A year or so ago, when I played with it I dont recall there being anything special about it.

Re: cutting edge distro

What about changing the OO PKGBUILD to version 3 and upload it to the AUR?
If it gets enough votes it might go into [community]. Arch lets you the choice...

Re: cutting edge distro

Then he'd have to do that for every package that he wants to install the newest bleeding edge version of. He wants a distro that does it for him.

The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

Given the amount of patches 2.x always has I doubt you could just change the version number and run it.

So do I. I've never said that he just has to change the version number...
