Same question from me Have been hunting Linux-based phones for the past 2-3 months. Not in a hurry but a Windows-based Smartphone is on my list if I can't find a good alternative by the end of summer.
I need real, proper pen and paper for this.

I have Nokia E61i with full qwerty keyboard but no toughscreen (not a fan of toughscreens). It runs symbian s60 which I personally don't like much, but the phone itself is great, keyboard is nice to type on and battery life is also reasonable. I wrote a small review at my blog, so you can check it out at blog.phisphere.org

Nokia bought Trolltech a while ago, maybe they will swap symbian to linux some day. Theres that OpenMoko which is basically iPhone-style phone with Linux operating system, but their site claims that it has beens sold-out....

Openmoko isn't ready yet...it says on their website that it'll be ready near the end of the year.

Well I have also hear that Google's Android platform will be freely available for download when it will be released (maybe as soon as summer or autumn 2008) so it might be possible to replace my Nokia Symbian OS with Android, which itself looks quite cool in the demos (search android in youtube).

Now that is cool ... it looked like the iphone he was using.. Arch on a phone now that would be even better

Isn't all linux systems more or less in development phase? One problem which I noticed with openmoko is missing of 3G.
And I think all E-series Nokia phones are made in Finland unlike other models so they are better quality IMO. E90 is very nice except that it is quite big and too expensive.

Now it's all bullcrap..In Asian countrie the Nokia retailers would tell you they're made in Finland when in fact from stage 1 of manufacturing > wholesale there is no Europe in the equation.

Well there were big news how Nokia closed their factory in Bochum, Germany and opened a new factory in Jucu, Romania which should employ 3500 workers. And they still have factory in Salo, Finland which employs 2000 workers. Nokia has subcontractors in Asia but phone assembly at least for European market is made in Europe.

I think I will wait for openmoko. Nokia is a little bit deprecated in Germany right now, and Google's Android is - well, certainly a fine product, but it is Google. We all know that they don't want to be evil, but absolute power corrupts. So I wouldn't use that.
